The New Orleans Saints have appointed a regular field marshal.
Chief coach Kellen Moore announced Tuesday that the second -year field marshal, Spencer Rattler, defeated the rookie Tyler Shough for the initial work. The Saints were the last NFL team to appoint a regular field marshal.
Rattleler, 24, will lead the Saints when they face the Arizona cardinals in week 1.

Rattler impressed in the preseason, completing 30 of 43 passes for 295 yards with a touchdown and an interception in three games. It was also a threat to the race game, running for 41 yards in seven haules and adding a two -point conversion.
The former star of South Carolina appeared in seven games, starting six of them, last season. The Saints were 0-6 in Rattler’s openings.
Rattler completed 57% of his passes for 1,317 yards with four touchdowns and five interceptions, while raning for 146 yards in 18 haules.

The Saints selected Shough with their second round selection (No. 40 in general) outside Louisville in April. It became the highest field marshal since Archie Manning was taken No. 2 in general in 1971.
Shough, 25, completed 36 of 54 passes for 333 yards with a touchdown and an interception in three preseason games. He also ran for a TouchDown in three haules for 23 yards.
Shough played seven years of university football. He spent his first three seasons in Oregon before transferring Texas Tech for three years. He finished his career in Louisville, where he completed 62.7% of his passes for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns and six interceptions.

Shough took care of numerous injuries throughout his career, playing more than eight games in a season only once, last year in Louisville.
The Saints were 5-12 last season, and Moore hopes that Rattler can take them back to the playoffs for the first time since 2021.
