Abdul Carter is running out of retired numbers to choose from.

The New York giants chose the very promoted Edge Rusher of Penn State with the third general selection, and fired for the moon with their initial jersey number.

Carter asked Lawrence Taylor, perhaps the best giant and defensive player in history, if he could use his No. 56, which was retired by the giants in 1994. He was not difficult for LT himself.

“I know he would love to use that number,” Taylor said. “But, hey, I think it’s retired. Get another number. I don’t care if it’s double zero and then make it famous.”

Former Field Marshal Simms later said that he would allow Carter to use his number 11, which was removed by the giants in 1995.

Carter used the number throughout his career in Penn State. It is an honor badge at school, given a school player, and the last representative, feels worthy. The previous Nittany Lion who used it before Carter was Micah Parsons, who now uses it with the Dallas Cowboys.

Carter said it would be an “honor”, but Simms’s family is actually who closed it.

New York’s former sports writer, Gary Myers, published in X that Simms told him that his own family “overcame him.”

Upon hearing the news, Carter joked saying that “I would be there with just my last name in my shirt, without number.”

Last season, the team did not withdraw Ray Flaherty number 1 for the open receiver Malik Nabers, which was number 9 throughout the university. Flaherty number retirement was the first in the history of professional football. Flaherty’s family gave the giants permission not to withdraw the number of Nabers, who used it well. Nabers, as a rookie, established the franchise record for most receptions in a season, with 109.

The G-Men have 13 retired numbers for 14 players. (No. 14 is for Ward Punf and already Tittle.) Warren Moon recently granted Cam Ward’s permission to use No. 1 with the Tennessee Titans.
