NFL news: Quentin Johnston of Chargers suffers from a brain shock

The open receiver of the Los Angeles Chargers, Quentin Johnston, left Saturday’s preseason game against the Los Angeles Rams after a hard blow left him with a brain shock.

Johnston was tracking a Justin Herbert ball for banking in the first quarter when the safety of the Rams, Tanner Guse, delivered great success. It was the third Snap of the first series of the Chargers.

The open receiver landed on his back with both arms extended. He was still for several moments before medical trainers came to see him.

“Quentin suffered a brain shock, and that is never a good thing,” said the chief coach of the Chargers, Jim Harbaugh. “But the way he looked there at the time, seemed that it could have been much worse. And he was taken (to a hospital) for more evaluation, but he was talking. He remembered the work. He moved well. So that’s how, it is something good.”

Los Angeles selected Johnston outside of TCU with General National Team No. 21 of the NFL 2023 Draft.

The 2024 season, Johnston’s second, was the best of his career so far. He had 55 trapped for 711 yards and eight trapped from Touchdown.

I was competing for the initial work for the chargers. It was number 2 in the depth table behind Keenan Allen, Tre Harris and Ladd McConkey.

It is not clear how long it will be out.
