The Philadelphia Eagles’ dynamic defensive back duo disbanded Monday as NFL free agency got off to a good start.

Reed Blankenship, who was one half of the “exciting targets,” agreed to a three-year deal with the Houston Texans, according to The Athletic. The move ended a brief career for the two players who helped the team to a Super Bowl title during the 2024 season.

Cooper DeJean, the other half of the tandem, regretted the move.

“Damn, I’m going to miss my friend. Go be a big brother,” he wrote on X.

The Eagles signed Blankenship as an undrafted free agent out of Middle Tennessee State ahead of the 2022 season. He was not an immediate starter and began getting first-team reps heading into the 2023 season.

He and DeJean clamped down on opposing offenses during the 2024 season. The team ranked second in points allowed as Philadelphia headed to a Super Bowl victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. In that game, DeJean intercepted Patrick Mahomes and returned the interception for a touchdown.

The duo Blankenship and DeJean were dubbed “exciting targets” as they made big plays on the field, in addition to being two of the few defensive backs in the NFL who are white.

Blankenship has 308 tackles and nine interceptions in 56 career games.

It’s been a tough offseason for the Eagles so far, as fans have seen some top players reach deals elsewhere.
