“From my first click at the University to my last game in the NFL, this trip has been nothing less than a blessing. Football gave me a purpose, discipline and memories that will remain with me forever. But more than anything, it gave me a community.”
Mathieu broke into the scene as an electrifying player during his university days in LSU. He finished fifth in the Heisman trophy voting as an outstanding defensive as a second year student.
In that second year season in 2011, Mathieu had 76 tacle combined, 1.5 captures, two interceptions, nine defeated passes, six forced loose balls and two loose ball recoveries for TouchDowns.
However, in August 2012, Mathieu was expelled from the team for continuously failing drug tests for the use of marijuana. In October 2012, Mathieu was arrested for possession of marijuana.

Despite being extremely talented, Mathieu fell to the third round of the 2013 NFL draft due to their problems outside the field before Arizona’s cardinals selected it.
Mathieu ended up emerging as a star for the cardinals, since he was named for a team all-serve twice in his five years with the team.
“For each coach who believed in me, every teammate who fought by my side, and every fan that appeared, cheered and rode with me through the ups and downs, thanks. You gave me strength when I needed it most, and your love took me further than I never imagined,” Mathieu wrote.
Mathieu spent a season with the Houston Texans, and then joined the Kansas City bosses. Mathieu was an integral part of the winning team of the Chiefs Super Bowl in 2019.
