The New England Patriots defensive coordinator, Terrell Williams, was diagnosed with prostate cancer, announced chief coach Mike Vrabel on Friday.

Williams, 51, moved away from the team after an unforeseen health problem arose after the defeat of week 1 of the team against Las Vegas Raiders.

“Unfortunately, I have to tell him that Terrell Williams was determined to have prostate cancer and is in the treatment process and meeting with specialists and discovering the best attack plan to be able to attack this and cure it and fix it and allow him to return to better health,” Vrabel told the Friday journalists.

“You know how much Terrell means for me personally and for people in this football team, so we want to send our greetings again and make everyone know that this is what you are trying. When you are ready to talk, you will talk in your name, but we wanted to let you know that it is happening.”

Williams lost the team’s rookie mini -signs in spring with an unrelated health problem. It was also treated for dehydration during a training field practice in July.

Vratabel said that the internal coach of the supporters Zak Kur will remain as the team’s defensive playing player in the absence of Williams.

“We will continue while we have been with Zak Kur calling the defense. I feel that was fine, I think that communication during the week has not lost a rhythm, so I think those guys are doing a great job there,” Vrabel said.
