President Donald Trump criticized the New York Giants after the team decided to play aggressively late in the game while leading three points against the Detroit Lions instead of kicking a field goal to extend their lead to six points.

Instead, Giants quarterback Jameis Winston missed and tackled tight end Theo Johnson. The Lions marched down the field after fumbling and kicked a field goal that tied the game. Detroit ultimately won the game 34-27 in overtime thanks to a Jahmyr Gibbs touchdown.

Trump appeared to echo sentiments expressed by Malik Nabers, who also criticized the plays but deleted his post on X.

“Why didn’t the New York Football Giants (NFL) kick that field goal???” the president wrote in Truth Social on Monday. “Who would have done such a thing? That was CRAZY! I watched the end of the game and thought, when they tried to score instead of scoring three, ‘That’s weird!!!'”

Nabers expressed his frustration moments after the game. The second-year wide receiver has been out of action since September with a torn ACL.
