After Team USA’s thrilling victory over Canada in the Olympic gold medal game on Sunday, all Brady Tkachuk wanted to do was celebrate. However, he first had to undergo a drug test.
Tkachuk, 26, was fulfilling his media obligations and heading to the locker room when he was hit on the shoulder.
“I get a pat on the shoulder, ‘Hey Brady, you’ve been selected for a drug test,'” Tkachuk said on a recent episode of his podcast “Wingmen with Matthew and Brady Tkachuk.”

Matthew Tkachuk said players are not required to take the drug test upon notification, but are under supervision until they do. Brady said two other players opted to do their tryouts right away but missed a couple of songs. She didn’t want to miss any of the celebrations, so she opted to wait until the bus left to get tested, which wouldn’t be for another hour and a half to two hours.
Matthew said the man who administered the test, a man he called “little Johnny,” had a front-row seat to the locker room celebrations.
Brady said that in a span of about 40 minutes, he drank about five beers, three Powerades and two waters, but still didn’t feel like going to the bathroom. He explained that drug tests require 90 milliliters of urine, and if the glass is not filled to the required amount, you have to wait until it is filled.

Brady said that normally after a game he has no problem going to the bathroom, but with the pressure of having to get tested to continue celebrating, he wasn’t sure he would be able to produce enough urine to complete the test. The Ottawa Senators captain said he was being patient and ultimately decided to get tested 10 minutes before the bus left.
“Finally, 10 minutes before the bus (left), I thought, ‘Whoa, I have to bet, I have to bet with this one.’ And he did, and (it was) 100 milliliters. I thought, ‘Thank God,’ because if I had to stay there and all the kids left and I had to meet them, I would have been mad.”
The locker room celebrations kicked off a wild few days of partying for Team USA.

After Team USA’s victory in Milan, the team flew to Miami to celebrate their victory at E11even, a famous nightclub. When their raucous celebration concluded, they flew to Washington, D.C., to meet with President Donald Trump and attend the State of the Union address on Tuesday.
The Senators returned to action on Thursday and lost 2-1 to the Detroit Red Wings in overtime. Tkachuk scored the team’s only goal, but was left bloodied after a big hit.
