- Google Maps’s deadlines are disappearing for some users
- It seems to be a problem of Google One, but a known solution is not known
- Fortunately, not everyone is affected, but it is frustrating for those who are
Google Maps’ deadlines are disappearing, and not only is there a guaranteed solution for the problem at this time, it is not clear if it is a permanent elimination or just a temporary failure.
At first glance, the reports of the deadlines of the people who are lost seem to have fallen into conflict with the great change of privacy of Google Map: its Google Maps timeline moves from the cloud to its device, and less that you accept several new configurations in a deadline (which is different for different users, in a strange way) will lose its travel history.
However, according to reports in the Subnet of Google Maps (seen by 9to5google), it is an unrelated problem, since it affects people who have agreed to support their locally. In addition, old backups cannot be restored (even if they eliminate and reinstall the MAPS application), and some notice that new visits are not traced either.
Some users have published saying that Google’s support blames the problem on Google One, and that Google is working on a solution, although, at the time of writing, there seems to be no reliable method to recover its timeline.
There was a time when the restoration of a backup seemed to work, however, the problem has spent so much time that backups are now overwriting, or simply cannot be restored, which means that this option is no longer available.
Why is it so important?
Fortunately, the problem does not seem to be affecting everyone: the Google Maps timeline on our devices seems to be fine, for example, but this is frustrating.
While making Google track its location sounds less than ideal for many, having a timeline of your travel history is a dream come true for many others. It serves as a useful tool to remember the holidays, or find a location that you want to return later, such as a coffee that stopped the other day, or a museum where not enough time passed on your last trip.
I love to look back through my timeline and I would disappoint me if my travel history were started from me by a failure, especially because at this moment it is not known when user deadlines will be restored.
Due to the sounds of things, it should be a fault that Google can solve, but, for now, all those affected will have to wait and see when a solution is sent.
