- Nikon announces Z-Mount versions of Red V-Rptor and Red Komodo
- The Nikkor Z 28-135mm f/4 pz cinema was launched simultaneously
- From Nikon’s red acquisition, we have seen permanent price drops for selected red cameras
Nikon’s red acquisition is in full effect, after the launch of two red film cameras with Nikon’s z assembly; The V-Rptor red and the red komodo. Z-Mount’s versions were launched along with Nikon’s new film lens, Nikkor Z 28-135mm f/4 pz.
Nikon instantly became an important player in the movie cameras when he acquired red digital cameras in March 2024, and has taken us less than a year to see the fruit of the acquisition, with versions of z -amount z of two super -movie cameras popular in the film industry.
It is a punch for the canon: the Komodo 6K network was previously available with the assembly of RF of Canon, but its future is now firmly in Camp Nikon. There will be several available lenses assembly adapters, including Nikon Z a Nikon F and Nikon Z a PL, but the network’s future is moving away from Canon lenses.
In addition, the Nikon effect has spread to the price of the red camera, the name of the film camera manufacturer, in addition to Nikon’s own cameras benefit from red technology. Let’s take a look at what has been happening.
The Nikon effect is in full swing, and I hope it comes more
In itself, there is little that is new in the Z-Mount versions of Red V-Rptor and Komodo, in addition to the lens support and what Nikon says are the improved automatic approach capabilities. The greatest impact is the direct compatibility with the Nikon Z-Mount lenses, of which there are many, and which now includes the Nikkor Z 28-135mm f /4 pz, a versatile and friendly zoom with the cardan with cinema features that it costs $ 2,596.95 /£ 2499 and has a sales date of April 2025 (price of Australia and TBC availability).
What is even more exciting, especially for independent filmmakers, is Nikon to cut the prices of Red Komodo 6K packages. In September 2024, we saw permanent price reductions of up to $ 3,000 discount, for example, the Komodo 6K camera production package now costs $ 11,995 (it was $ 14,995). It is not yet cheap in any way, but more affordable for professionals. The prices for the 6K Komodo Network with Z-Mount start at $ 6,995 (around £ 5,600), while the V-Raptor 8K Red V-Raptor costs $ 29,995 (around £ 24,000, converted from USD).
Nikon has also officially withdrawn the name of his subsidiary too, from red digital cameras to simply red, which is what most people call him anyway.
In the other direction, Nikon cameras are benefiting from red technology. In September 2024, four LUTS red profiles were made available to current Nikon mirror, including Nikon Z6 III, Nikon Z8 and Nikon ZF, and even certain DSLR as the D780. Nikon N-Log video images can now be stylized in Rec.709 color using any of the network’s movie biases, movie laundering byeum, movie displacement, movie bias and chromatic color profiles co-developed with The movie colorist Eric Weidt.
Nor do I hope that the Nikon effect stops here. What do you think? What are the most exciting developments that we can expect from Nikon’s red acquisition? Better video features in Nikon without mirror cameras? More Z-Mount cinema lenses? Avise me in the comments below.
