Nine upper SBCA officers arrested


Karachi:

Police have raided the office of the Building Control Authority of Sindh (SBCA) and put nine senior officials for the interrogation, including a retired director.

A FIR was officially registered on Wednesday, appointing the senior officials of the SBCA and the owners of the collapsed building.

After registration, the FIR was formally sealed by the police.

The case refers to the collapse of a five -story residential building in Fida Hussain Shaikha Road in the Lyari Baghdadi area on July 4.

The tragedy claimed the lives of 27 people and wounded another 11. The incident caused outrage and high -level investigation into the cause and responsibility.

Among the detainees are the additional director SBCA Irfan Naqvi, Zargham Shah, the retired director Asifvi, Chalis Siddiqui, Ashfaq Khokhar, Deputy Director Faheem Siddiqui, the assistant director Zulfiqar Shah and Faheem Murtaza.

The owners of the building have also been arrested to interrogate.

The sources say that SBCA officials are being interrogated by alleged participation in illegal constructions in Lyari and their failure to avoid structural violations.

The authorities continue the efforts to track and arrest all the people named in the FIR.

The Governor Sindh begins the help efforts for those affected by the demolition of ruins in Lyari. The governor’s house has begun to provide daily meals to affected families.
