Nintendo has officially presented the first images of The legend of Zelda Movie – and they offer us a big clue as to what game it will be based on.
Published today (November 17) in the Nintendo Today app, the three photos show The legend of Zelda MovieBenjamin Evan Ainsworth and Bo Bragason’s leads wear costumes that long-time fans will instantly recognize.
In fact, two of them are close-ups of the film’s stars looking at something off-camera, while the third shows the couple looking out over one of the vast (not to mention lush) plains of Hyrule.
There are a couple of things worth noting about still images. Ainsworth’s Link is dressed in his legendary green tunic and white t-shirt, so Nintendo and Sony Pictures’ live-action version of the former’s popular video game series is committed to being as authentic as possible.
However, what is much more interesting is that Bragason’s Zelda is wearing a turquoise dress and a dark green tights set reminiscent of her appearance in one of The legend of Zelda the most recent entries in the franchise. Her outfit is not much different from the clothes she wears. This is not the only image from the film that has emerged in recent days. Last Saturday (November 15), leaked footage from the film, which is filming in New Zealand, hit the internet and appears to have revealed an addition to its cast that Nintendo hasn’t publicly acknowledged.
The secretly filmed video begins with the camera focused on Bragason’s Zelda, who walks toward a pair of horses. It’s here that she’s greeted by another actor, who appears to resemble Impa, Zelda’s main assistant in the hit Nintendo game franchise.
As the camera zooms in, we get a much better look at who may be playing Impa (or whoever this individual is). And, while it’s difficult to fully distinguish the actor in question, they seem batch as Dichen Lachman, aka the Australian star viewers may recognize as Mrs. Casey from the sci-fi hit. The leaked clip raises more questions about The legend of Zelda the plot of the movie. Will this mysterious character be part of the process in its first act or throughout? Is one of the horses Epona, Link’s trusty steed that might initially be under Zelda’s care in this film? And, perhaps most importantly, are Zelda and her lieutenant traveling in secret to avoid being detected and/or found by Ganandorf? The legend of zelda The big bad of the franchise?
I’m sure we’ll get answers to some or all of the above questions in due time. For now, here is the most important information about the release date: The legend of Zelda Movie will hit theaters worldwide on May 7, 2027.
