NJ Wrestling: Anthony Knox wins the regional title after the prohibition rises


A wrestling star of New Jersey high school won a regional title on Saturday after the decision of a judge to cancel a disqualification against him for a fight in the stands during the district tournament last week.

Anthony Knox, by St. John Vianney High School in Holmdel, received the approval to fight in the 126 -pound competition at Lacey High School on Friday night. A judge revoked the New Jersey interscholastic athletic association (NJSIAA) to disqualify it after Knox was involved in a fight in the stands during the district tournament.

The melee fight involved his father, Anthony Mr., both Knox men were seen handcuffed after the incident.

Cornell’s comet defeated Aidan Flynn de Lacey to win the title.

Knox is now on the way to win his fourth consecutive state title in the Wrestling Championships of Njsiaa in Atlantic City this weekend. The NJSIAA requested a suspension of the judge’s decision, which, if approved, could mean that Knox would be marginalized for the tournament.

Lancers chief coach Chris Notte praised Knox’s ability to lock himself and concentrate on winning his game on Friday despite all the drama that surrounds him.

“I was not nervous at all, it was Anthony Knox himself,” Note to NJ.com told. “He had the same murderous instinct and brightness in his eyes. He came out, did the job and went home with a good sports spirit.”

Knox would become the fifth four -time champion of the state if he competes and wins the tournament this weekend, according to Asbury Park Press.
