- Alipay+ and Meizu smart glasses can now make payments
- With QR and voice payments, your face could be the new wallet
- Manufacturers say these are the first truly intelligent glasses for real world transactions
The idea of leaving home without your phone and still being able to buy coffee may seem crazy, but this is what Alipay+ and Meizu are promising.
ALIPAY+, a global wateway gateway service operated by Ant International, recently completed what he describes as the first electronic wallet payment of the world’s real world through an augmented reality crystal.
The transaction was carried out using the Alipayhk and Meizu Starv Snap glasses in Hong Kong.
Smart glasses encounter voice and QR technology
Smart glasses allow payments through QR scans or voice commands, made possible by the characteristics of AI of Alipay+, such as the recognition of intention, the voice interface and the authentication of the voice footprint.
Meizu hardware supports these characteristics with optical wave guide screens, noise reduction microphones and integrated cameras.
The system also admits NFC -based cards and QR payments through the broader technology suite of Alipay+.
“The off -line payment function of the smart glasses launched abroad by Meizu and Alipay+ has established a new technological reference point for the industry,” said Peng Guo, general manager of the Meizu XR Division.
“Innovation in the payment scenario has improved the practicality and attractiveness of smart glasses and also promoted the progress and development of the GASH INDUSTRY. We hope that this function provides more convenient experiences to users.”
However, despite all innovation, it is fair to ask who this is, since while technology could attract the first users and technology enthusiasts, it can be a more difficult sale for common people.
However, Jiangming Yang, director of Innovation of ANT, states: “… smart glasses will transform rapidly into the next generation personal device such as mobile phone.”
That is a bold statement, particularly considering that smart glasses have not yet found a place in the daily life of the average consumer.
The best safe smartphone or even the best smartphone for business struggle to combine the convenience with data safety.
Smart glasses add another layer of complexity, particularly around public use, user interface and reliability.
That said, the payment function of smart glasses can be more a novel characteristic than essential, but without a doubt it expands what portable technology can do, even if it is not yet ready to replace your phone.
It is expected that the deployment to Alipay+ Global Partners later in 2025.
