North Korea launches two nuclear-capable ballistic missiles into the Sea of Japan

North Korea recently tested nuclear-capable KN-25 short-range ballistic missiles amid rising geopolitical tensions in the region.

The missiles launched from a site near the capital city of Pyongyang successfully hit the target after flying about 217 miles. It has been revealed that the missiles are capable of carrying nuclear warheads and have a range of 400 kilometers.

According to the daily mail, An American scientist has warned that the missiles could be powerful enough to cause large-scale destruction in major cities.

The US government responded to the test by saying it was monitoring the situation in coordination with its allies, Japan and South Korea, in the region.

However, no counterlaunches or troop movements were reported.

The United States Forces Korea (USFK), the US forces stationed in Korea, confirmed the launch and stated: “Based on current assessments, this event does not pose an immediate threat to US personnel or territory or our allies.”

North Korea and the United States have been adversaries for more than seven decades, since the end of the Korean War in 1953. American forces fought against North Korean and Chinese forces in the Korean War to defend South Korea.

North Korea and China have a mutual defense treaty that requires both countries to fight together if one of them is attacked.
