Sturla Holm Lægreid may have had one of the strangest Olympic moments of all time, revealing that he had an affair with his now ex-girlfriend, but his time at the 2026 Milan Cortina Games is still going well anyway.
The Norwegian biathlete went viral for a tearful confession, saying he cheated on his ex-girlfriend and regretted it after winning bronze during the 20km biathlon.
But Lægreid has won two medals since then, including his third on Sunday, when he took silver in the men’s 12.5 kilometer biathlon event.

It’s been a big week for Lægreid, though, as she tearfully explained that she’s had the “worst week of her life” due to the weight of what she did on her love life.
“Six months ago, I met the love of my life and the most beautiful and kind person in the world,” she said after her event at NRK in Norway. “Three months ago, I made my biggest mistake and cheated on her, and I told her about it about a week ago.”

He was crying and hugging friends after the race, and followed up his initial comments with more during a news conference.
“It was the choice I made,” he said of revealing the information on the broadcast. “We make different decisions throughout our lives, and that’s how we do life,” he told a room full of reporters. “So today I made the decision to tell the world what I did, so maybe, maybe there’s a chance she’ll see what it really means to me. Maybe not.”
Lægreid said a day later that he “deeply regrets” having revealed such a personal detail about his life on live television, exposing a private matter in one of the most public ways possible.
“I’m not myself these days and I’m not thinking clearly,” he said in a statement Wednesday. “My apologies go to Johan-Olav (Botn), who deserved all the attention after winning gold. Also to my ex-girlfriend, who accidentally ended up in the media spotlight. I hope she does well. I can’t undo this, but now I’ll put it behind me and focus on the Olympic Games. I won’t answer any more questions about it.”
Lægreid remained in the headlines all week, although it was due to his performance at the Milan Cortina Games, where he took a bronze medal on Friday in the men’s 10km race.

The Norwegian is a six-time world champion and although this is something completely different in terms of adversity, he is clearly still performing well on the biggest world stage in Italy this week.
