- Surfshark has just launched a dedicated IP function for browser extension
- Users can choose between static IP addresses in 20 cities in 15 countries
- The optional complement is already accessible to all surfshark subscribers
Surfshark has launched an IP dedicated function for its extension of the browser, which is in line with its desktop and mobile counterparts.
Surfshark launched its IP function dedicated in its Windows, Mac, Android and iOS applications in 2023, allowing users to have their own unique and static IP addresses. Since then, it has expanded its offer to 20 IP locations dedicated in 15 countries and 20 cities.
The addition of the feature means that the users of the extensions of Chrome, Firefox and Edge of Surfshark can continue to benefit from the protection of Surfshark while enjoying the benefits of having a dedicated IP.
The use of a dedicated IP helps avoid the blacklist of shared IP and allows reliable access to services that restrict IP changes. Surfshark’s dedicated IP function function supports the best VPN protocols, including Wireguard, providing the fastest possible speeds.
What is Surfshark’s dedicated IP and why does it matter?
Most VPNs, including Surfshark, offer shared IP addresses, which improves anonymity by mixing users and their activities behind the same IP address. However, there are times when a dedicated IP address, that is, a unique static IP address assigned exclusively to a single VPN user, is more appropriate.
“A dedicated IP provides a consistent IP address for each navigation session, so it is ideal to safely access private servers or corporate remote access systems,” said Senior Senior Products Manager of Surfshark, fair Pukys. “Unlike a standard VPN connection, which provides a shared IP address that changes with each session and is used by several users, a dedicated IP offers exclusive use.”
Shared IP addresses have a reputation to request requests for human verification: those annoying captchas that ask you to solve a selected puzzle or traffic lights. However, the IP addresses dedicated minimize the frequency of Captcha’s verifications by presenting a constant and reliable identity to the websites, which are then less likely to mark traffic as suspicious.
Similarly, having a dedicated IP consistent address facilitates users to access websites and applications that otherwise block the Shared IP addresses. This includes government websites or online banking services, which require consistent identification.
How surfshark browser extension is compared to its VPN applications
Surfshark browser extension is a light version of its applications, which makes it even easier to secure its connection. The extension offers many of the same characteristics as surfshark desktop applications, including access to alternative ID, Antivirus Surfshark and Cleanweb.
One of the key differences between an extension of the VPN browser and a VPN application is that an extension only ensures the traffic of your browser and not that of any application you are using.
In addition, the surfshark extension does not offer a murder switch because it works only in the browser layer and, unlike the Surfshark application, it cannot control or block the traffic throughout the system. Similarly, the browser extension does not include access to surfshark multihop servers.
However, like applications, Chrome, Firefox and Surfshark browser extensions now offer IP dedicated in 20 main cities.
These are: Australia (Sydney), Brazil (Sao Paulo), Canada (Toronto), France (Paris), Germany (Frankfurt am Main), Hong Kong (Hong Kong), Italy (Milan) Japan (Tokyo), The Netherlands (Amsterdam) Pole South Africa (Johannesburg), Turkey (Istanbul), United Kingdom (London), United States (Dallas, Denver, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York and San José).
Surfshark dedicated IP is available for all surfshark users and costs $ 3.75 additional per month. You will find the option to add an IP address dedicated to its surfshark subscription through its surfshark account or by clicking on the “Obtain dedicated” IP button within applications and surfshark extension.
