- Nvidia could have a new turn on your RTX 5090 graphics card
- It is rumored that this is a new version of RTX 5090 D for China
- A filter says that he will pack a ‘surprise’, but the truth could be more mundane
It is rumored that Nvidia is planning a new variant on its Blackwell flagship graphics card, potentially an RTX 5090 DD model, and could come with a ‘surprise’ according to a filter.
The Tom hardware marked two separate mentions of this potential GPU (add condiments with all this) in X, the first of which came from Megasizegpu, who mentioned the RTX 5090 DD and how it will be only for China.
So, the theory is that this is a follow -up of the RTX 5090 D (unique D, not double D) for China, a different turn on the standard Blackwell flagship that occurred for that country to surround the export regulations of the United States.
Except that the posts have been moved in those restrictions, and now discards the RTX 5090 D in itself as too powerful (for the use of AI) to be sent to China. It seems that the idea is now to reduce the graphics card even more so that it is feasible to supply Asia, and call it RTX 5090 DD.
The alleged cutting specifications were supplied by another normal in the GPU leak scene in X, Kopite7kimi, as you can see below.
RTX 5090 DD? PG145-SKU40GB202-240-K*-A121760FP32384-bit GDDR7 24G 28GBPS575WAND. There is a surprise.June 18, 2025
The key changes are a slightly lower level GPU chip (GB202-240, instead of GB202-250 as seen in the original 5090 D), and the RAM of the video has fallen to 24 GB with a narrower 384 bits memory bus.
That means a 25% coup in the memory bandwidth compared to RTX 5090 D, but the core count and the TDP remain the same (the latter is interesting, and I will return to why soon).
The Tom Hardware takes as read that these two rumors are completely aligned, and they are what we can see in terms of specifications, but keep in mind that Kopite7kimi has an interrogation sign that leads its publication in X, which begins: ‘rtx 5090 dd?’
However, this probably refers to questioning the name, and if this will really be called RTX 5090 DD, instead of doubting whether this is really a new turn in a graphics card only for China. Although we should never give anything about the rumor factory, and perhaps the latter could be the case.
In any case, the most intriguing part here is the mention of Kopite7kimi of a “surprise” of Nvidia with this GPU.
ANALYSIS: Let the riddle games begin
When it comes to the name, yes, doing it ‘dd’ sounds quite unlikely, but remember, this is the company that brought the rtx 4070 ti super graphics cards (and equally clumsy inimaginativity athletes in the past).
As mentioned, surprise is what we really want to know, and Kopite7kimi does not explain what could be with any vague indirect, even. So, we stayed to guess that score.
The hardware of Tom theorizes that the surprise could be more cuts for the powers of the graphics card delivered through the firmware, and that sounds completely possible. But it also sounds completely boredAnd the way the filter makes fun that “there is a surprise” seems to be written to enliven some emotion here. A small cut to the abilities of AI barely qualifies in that sense, but what else could it may have the sleeve here?
For me, this suggests that Nvidia is planning a movement such as reducing the price of RTX 5090 DD. Or maybe, more exciting, offering it outside China too? Yes, that’s fine, that seems unlikely (although as noted, with that questioning sign, it could be that Kopite7kimi is not completely sure that this is the aforementioned Chinese variant). Perhaps more realistically, we could be looking at a bump right in the clock speeds (hence the TDP remains the same, with the specification cut in some key areas).
With luck, we will soon discover what Nvidia could be doing here, in any case, since all this could be so much of the rumor factory (or plans of the Green team that never materialize).
