NYT Connections Today (game #742) – The answers
The responses to today’s connections, game #742, are …
- Yellow: News announcement Bulletin, flash, report, cable
- Green: nouns of a famous line in the declaration of independence Happiness, freedom, life, search
- Blue: HBO shows Endourage, euphoria, insecure, succession
- Purple: what could mean “left” Party, port, progressive, remaining
- My qualification: Moderate
- My score: 1 error
My first thought when watching the word board today was that surely entourage, euphoria and succession joined as examples of brilliant American television programs. But what to add them? The cable, perhaps, but was definitive at the beginning, so it seemed unlikely. Was there a show called Department maybe, or was it that He Left? Or it could be life, since that is definitely a television program, but British.
In the end I stood on that and looked elsewhere, detecting that life, freedom and the search for happiness were all nouns of a famous line in the declaration of independence.
That gave me an easy green, so I decided to look for the next yellow supposedly easier. Yellow groups are almost always only straight groups without subterfuge or bad direction, so I looked at the board with a clear mind and flash, report, cable and newsletter as examples of a news ad.
With a more necessary one, I watched the television programs, now Shorn of Life and Wire, and touched those three with the game. That gave me ‘one far’, but I added insecure as a possible one and I did well. It turns out that all were HBO shows.
That has just left purple and what “left” could mean, an oblique group with matches, port, progressive and remaining.

What are NYT connections?
Nyt Connections is one of the several increasingly popular words games made by the New York Times. It challenges him to find groups of four elements that share something in common, and each group has a different level of difficulty: green is easy, yellow a little harder, blue often quite hard and purple generally very difficult.
On the positive side, he technically does not need to solve the end, since he can answer it for an elimination process. In addition, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you some space to breathe.
However, it is a bit more involved than something like Wordle, and there are many opportunities for the game to move you with tricks. For example, be careful with homophones and other words games that could disguise the answers.
It is playable for free through the Nyt Games site in desktop or mobile.
