NYT Connections Today (Game #561): The Answers
The answers to today’s Connections game #561 are…
- YELLOW: HOMOPHONES SHEEP, U, YEW, YOU
- GREEN: NECKLINES BOAT, CREW, PALLET, V
- BLUE: WAYS TO EXPRESS 1,000 BIG, K, M, YOU
- PURPLE: SUPER 8, BOWL, GLUE, TUESDAY
- My rating: Hard
- My score: 3 mistakes
I knew today was going to be difficult when I saw M, U, 8, and K and it proved so, at least for me, as I struggled with a mental block after acquiring HOMOPHONES.
If SUPER had included Man instead of TUESDAY, I would have gotten there. Living in the UK, our Tuesdays are just regular Tuesdays and none have been described as great. It is probably the last day of the week that should be classified as “super.” On Monday you have hope for a new week and new possibilities, on Wednesday you are almost over the mid-week problem, Thursday is practically Friday and Friday is almost Saturday: a truly super day.
YOU confused me too, as I got stuck on the archaic pronunciation, instead of WAYS TO EXPRESS 1000, and M also confused me, thinking of James Bond’s character before Roman numerals, something the Super BOWL uses to differentiate between years. .
Answers from yesterday’s NYT Connections (Sunday, December 22, game #560)
- YELLOW: ARGUMENT FOR THE HEAD COCONUT, CROWN, DOME, SKULL
- GREEN: PALINDROMES ABBA, KAYAK, NUN, STATISTICS
- BLUE: POLICE PROCEDURES BONES, PRIMARY, KOJAK, MONK
- PURPLE: FIRST IN A COMEDY DUO ABBOTT, FRY, KEY, LAUREL
What are NYT connections?
NYT Connections is one of the increasingly popular word games created by the New York Times. It challenges you to find groups of four elements that share something in common, and each group has a different difficulty level: green is easy, yellow is a little harder, blue is usually quite difficult, and purple is usually very difficult.
On the plus side, you don’t technically need to solve the final question since you’ll be able to answer it through a process of elimination. What’s more, you can make up to four mistakes, which gives you a little breathing room.
However, it’s a little more complicated than something like Wordle and there are plenty of opportunities for the game to trip you up with tricks. For example, be careful with homophones and other puns that could disguise answers.
It can be played for free via the NYT Games site on desktop or mobile devices.
