NYT Strands Today (game #353) – The answers
The responses to today’s threads, game #353, are …
- ELDERLY
- STRAW
- HIP
- BLUE
- SCRAPE
- SALMON
- GOLDEN
- BLACK
- Spangram: berries
- My qualification: Moderate
- My score: 1 track
Interestingly, berries are a linguistic invention and many languages that are not English do not collect these small fruits in a single family of food and, on the other hand, have unique words for strawberries, raspberries, etc.
The truth is that they are not related at all. The word berry comes from Latin for grapes, but we don’t think of grapes as berries, and was only used to describe small fruits. Meanwhile, to add to confusion, what some people think it is a blueberry, other people think like a blueberry.
Like mushrooms, berries are an area in which you should be careful if you feed in nature. Many varieties, including Elder, will give you a very discomfort stomach, while some, including berries of virginia vine, can be fatal for humans. Maybe it would be a good idea not to give them a name that includes the same suffix as delicious things.
