Finland is famous for having 23 different words for snow, but I’d say the English language comes pretty close when it comes to describing COLD weather.
Many of the words describing NOTSOHOT conditions were absent from today’s word search, including fresh, icy, brisk, bitter, arctic and my favourite, which may not have made it into common parlance outside the UK, “taters”, often combined with the phrase “it’s taters sarge”, an idiom that comes from Cockney rhyming slang for cold or possibly potatoes, no one knows.
Yesterday’s NYT Strands Answers (Monday, December 22, Game #659)
- SCARF
- BOOK
- CANDLE
- CONTRAPTION
- CAME
- LOTION
- EARRINGS
- SPANGRAM: GIFT
