Are you looking for a different day?
A new NYT Strands puzzle appears at midnight every day for your time zone, which means some people are always playing “today’s game” while others play “yesterday’s.” If instead you are looking for the Tuesday puzzle then click here: NYT Strands Tips and Answers for Tuesday, October 14 (Game #590).
Strands is the latest NYT word game after Wordle, Spelling Bee, and Connections, and it’s a lot of fun. It can be difficult, though, so read on for my Strands suggestions.
Want more word-based fun? Then check out my NYT Connections Today and Quordle Today pages for tips and answers for those games, and Marc’s Wordle Today page for the original viral word game.
SPOILER WARNING: Today’s NYT Strands info is below, so don’t read on if you don’t want to know the answers.

NYT Strands Today (Game #591): The Answers
The answers to today’s Strands game number 591 are…
- OPEN
- NEAR
- ALARM
- LOBBY
- FLOOR
- BASEMENT
- SPANGRAM: ELEVATOR BUTTONS
- My rating: Moderate
- My score: Perfect
Finding OPEN and CLOSE in quick succession followed by ALARM really helped me complete today’s chapters. Without that, I think I would have had a lot of trouble because I had no idea what the topic was about.
As is often the case with Strands, I saw the ELEVATORBUTTONS spangram in two stages and was disappointed to see that it didn’t complete a full trip from top to bottom, stopping to one line before the return trip to the GROUND floor.
I also managed to complete the game without thinking too much about getting stuck in an ELEVATOR, although to be honest, my real fear is getting stuck in an elevator without snacks.
Answers from yesterday’s NYT Strands (Tuesday, October 14, game #590)
- PEBBLE
- STONE
- ROCK
- GELATIN
- DINNER
- GROWING
- ESPANGRAM: ROCKANDROLL
