NYT Strands Today (Game #294): The Answers
The answers to today’s Strands game number 294 are…
- SNOW
- BELLS
- BRIGHT
- WALKING
- SLED
- SPANGRAM: WINTER WONDERLAND
- My rating: Easy
- My score: Perfect
Taking the words from the first verse of WINTER WONDERLAND made today’s Strands a breeze, and I’m sure you were already singing about Parson Brown when you finished it.
It’s one of those songs that’s hard to screw up, making it the perfect karaoke song; perfect except for the fact that it only really works for one month out of the year.
In the United Kingdom, it is a song that has been adopted by football fans, who will change the lyrics to suit their star striker with some variations to suit the club and player. For example, in Scotland in the 1990s, Celtic fans honored goalscorer Jorge Cadete by singing:
“There is only one Jorge Cadete / He puts the ball in the net / He is Portuguese / and scores with ease / Walking in a Jorge Wonderland.”
Erm, what I was saying about it being a song that’s hard to screw up… I take it back.
How was today? Send me an email and let me know.
