NYT Strands Today (Game #317): The Answers

- ANORAK
- SCARF
- JACKET
- GLOVES
- BOXING GLOVES
- CAP
- SPANGRAM: WINTER CLOTHING
- My rating: Easy
- My score: Perfect
I feel like today’s Strands was missing the most essential WINTER WEAR: earmuffs. They are a turning point.
According to author and outdoorsman Alfred Wainwright, “there is no such thing as bad weather, only inappropriate clothing.”
Considering that this statement was made in 1973, long before the many advances in cold weather clothing, it is an even bolder statement.
Wainwright, who made his name writing and illustrating hiking guides in the north of England, was thinking of a wool sweater, a flat cap and a pipe instead of a base layer made of polyamide yarn infused with grain shells. brown, SmartWool socks, a Thinsulate midlayer, a Thermoball jacket and a pair of GoreTex pants.
