The restructuring of the main legal and compliance roles in the exchange of cryptocurrencies OKX continues with the departure of the Global Advisor of the firm, Melissa Muehlfeld.
Muehlfeld joined Okcoin, OKX’s American arm, in May 2022 as an attached general advisor. It was promoted to Global General Advisor in August 2024.
Since OKX paid half a billion dollars to liquidate the charges with the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) in February of this year, the exchange has replaced the main legal and compliance employees, including legal director Mauricio Beugelmans and the Chief of Compliance Vanessa Zhang.
OKX appointed former Superintendent and Head of the New York Financial Services Department (NYDFS), Linda Lacewell, as its legal director (CLO) after Beugelman’s departure.
It is said that Lacewell is restructuring the legal and compliance divisions of the company, according to a source familiar with the situation.
“As a matter of company policy, we do not comment to all the people who join and/or leave the company,” said an OKX spokesman by email.
Muehlfeld did not respond to requests for comments.
