OKX Legal Director Mauricio Beugelmans leaves the exchange

The legal director of OKX, Mauricio Beugelmans, has left the exchange of cryptocurrencies, according to his LinkedIn profile.

Beugelmans, who has been fundamental in the configuration of OKX’s global compliance policy, states in his profile that his mandate lasted three years and eight months in the exchange, from August 2021 to March 2025.

Last month, OKX paid more than $ 500 million in fines and rates lost in an agreement with the United States Department of Justice that declared that the company had provided more than $ 5 billion in “suspicious transactions and criminal gains.”

A source familiar with the matter said that Beugelmans’s departure was related to the recent agreement of the Department of Justice.

Okcoin, the US Division of OKX, also received a summons issued by the Basic Products Trade Commission (CFTC) on February 24 of last year. The citation referred to “certain people dedicated to fraud and other illegal behavior with respect to digital asset transactions.”

Neither Okx nor Beugelmans responded to comments requests at the time of publication.
