Olivia Rodrigo has announced her first new music in almost two years, revealing that her new single Drop dead will premiere on April 17.
The singer shared the news on Instagram on Tuesday alongside a photo of herself blowing a bubble with gum, with the single’s title embroidered on her shirt.
The song will be the first sample from their upcoming third album. You seem pretty sad for a girl so in love.which will be released on June 12.
Rodrigo recorded the album with producer Dan Nigro, his collaborator on both debut albums. Sour and its follow-up Viscera.
Details about the project have been largely kept under wraps, but she offered a glimpse into her state of mind in a recent British Vogue cover story, describing it as full of “sad love songs.”
Writing from a happy place, he admitted, was a real creative challenge.
“When you feel like you’re connected to someone, or you feel really good, you’re not in your head thinking about bittersweet poems!” she said.
Rodrigo also reflected on what love reveals about a person.
“You’re getting to the core of all your problems: how you feel about yourself, your insecurities, what makes you happy,” he said.
“It feels like your rawest form, which is so scary and terrifying and uncomfortable at times, but beautiful at times.”
