U.S. Olympian Jessie Diggins pushed as hard as she could to cross the finish line in the women’s 10-kilometer freestyle cross-country skiing to claim a bronze medal at the Winter Olympics on Thursday.
Diggins, fighting bruised ribs, was trying to get on the podium between the Swedish and Norwegian skiers. She endured the pain and fell to the ground.

He was writhing in pain right after crossing the line. The NBC broadcast heard Diggins scream as her teammate tried to help her as she tried to catch her breath. Diggins did it for the love of the sport and can now consider herself an Olympic medalist. He crossed the line at 23.38.90.
Swede Frida Karlsson had the best time of 22:49.20, finishing 46.6 seconds ahead of fellow Swede Ebba Andersson. Norway’s Astria Oeyre Slind was just over 3 seconds behind Diggins.

It’s the first medal for Team USA that day, as the U.S. looked to catch up with Italy and Norway in the overall medal standings.
Diggins won the silver medal at the 2022 Beijing Olympics in this event. He also won a bronze in the individual sprint at those Games. Diggins was part of the gold medal-winning team sprint at the 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics.
He can still get more medals with the 50 meter classic race and the 4×7.5 kilometer relay still to come.

Diggins and American Ben Ogden are now medalists in the sport. Ogden won a silver in the men’s classic sprint earlier this week.
