The opposition leader in the National Assembly, Omar Ayub Khan, urged Tuesday to the president of the Supreme Court Yahya Afridi to intervene in the ongoing trials on May 9, claiming constitutional and procedural violations against the leaders of Pakistan Tehreek-E-Insaf (PTI).
In a letter dated July 27, 2025, Ayub described the “politically” trials and accused the anti -terrorist courts of the hurried procedures during odd hours, denying the rights of the right judgments and the legal advisor of election.
In addition, he said that audiences often continued from dawn to 3:00 am
The opposition leader also claimed that the FIRs were manufactured, the interrogation was coercive and PTI leaders were selectively attacked. He also criticized the denial of access to the media and the exclusion of the family members of the Court Chamber.
Citing the constitutional and preceding provisions of the Supreme Court, he urged the court to review the conduct of the trial, restore open access and stop the sessions beyond reasonable hours.
Ayub also requested a judicial investigation into fiscal misconduct.
Early on the day, the Supreme Court postponed the Appeals Hearing filed by former Prime Minister Imran Khan until August 12.

The founder of PTI had approached the Apex court after the dismissal of his bail requests in cases of May 9 disturbances by the Superior Court of Lahore (LHC).
A division bank of the Apex court, led by the president of the Supreme Court of Pakistan, Yahya Afridi, postponed the hearing because of the general postponement of Imran’s lawyer, Salman Safdar.
The lawyer Salman Akram Raja appeared before the bank and asked the court to reschedule the hearing for next week and issue notices to respondents.
