- OpenAI Frontier Enables Enterprises to Manage OpenAI, Proprietary and Third-Party Agents
- Each AI agent gets its own unique identity, permissions, and guardrails
- The company sees this as a collaborative approach.
OpenAI has launched Frontier, a new AI agent management platform where enterprise customers can create, deploy and manage agent AI from both OpenAI and third-party companies.
In his announcement, ChatGPT’s creator hinted that Frontier is designed to address agent dispersion where fragmented tools, siled data, and disconnected workflows reduce the effectiveness of AI agents.
“Frontier gives agents the same skills people need to succeed at work: shared context, onboarding, hands-on learning with feedback, and clear permissions and boundaries,” the company said.

Speaking of siled data and fragmented tools, OpenAI said that AI is not responsible, but instead amplified a problem that already existed before: “AI made that fragmentation more visible and, in many cases, more acute.”
The company took a human approach to managing AI agents, considering what employees need to get started and then applying those same principles to AI agents.
Frontier is designed to allow agents to work in multiple environments, including on-premises, cloud, and OpenAI-hosted, but most importantly, it uses open standards so businesses can use OpenAI agents, internal agents, and third-party agents within this single platform.
Broadly speaking, the system works by giving each AI agent its own unique identity, including permissions and security barriers, minimizing concerns about working in regulated environments.
In addition to early adopters like Intuit, HP, Oracle, and Uber, who helped guide the OpenAI project, the company has also set plans to work with Frontier Partners like Abridge, Clay, Ambience, Decagon, Harvey, and Sierra to “learn what customers need.”
