- OpenAI presents Codex Security for vulnerability detection
- Tool reduces false positives and classification workload
- Now in research preview, free for one month
OpenAI has launched Codex Security, a new security agent that can discover high-impact software vulnerabilities while reducing the time security teams must spend triaging.
Codex Security, an evolution of a tool formerly known as Aardvark, “creates deep context about your project to identify complex vulnerabilities that other agent tools miss, generating higher-confidence findings with fixes that significantly improve your system’s security while sparing you the noise of insignificant bugs,” the company says.
He notes that most AI security tools simply flag low-impact findings and generate false positives, forcing security teams to spend a lot of time triaging. At the same time, AI agents are accelerating software development, making security reviews a major bottleneck.

That’s why context is essential and, hopefully, where the Codex shines.
“By combining the agentic reasoning of our frontier models with automated validation, you get high-confidence findings and actionable solutions so teams can focus on important vulnerabilities and ship secure code faster,” OpenAI concluded.
The tool, which was previously only a private beta for a select group of customers, has been improved by increasing accuracy, reducing the rate of findings with overreported severity, and reducing false positives.
Now, the tool is moving from a private beta to a research preview, available to ChatGPT Pro, Enterprise, Business and Edu customers, via the Codex website. It will be free to use for the next month, OpenAI said, suggesting the tool will cost extra in the future.
There were no clues as to how much it might cost once the free month period has passed, but it appears to be a direct competitor to Claude Opus 4.6.
