- Letter of intention of Openai and Samsung sign to sweep the association of AI
- The agreement includes memory supply, data centers and floating energy infrastructure
- Operai seeks the independence of hyperscalers as the rivals expand global infrastructure
Openai and Samsung and have signed a letter of intention for a radical association that covers semiconductors, data centers, naval construction, cloud services and maritime technologies.
The announcement was made in a ceremony in Seoul to those who attended senior leaders of the entire Samsung electronic, naval construction, construction and business of IT services.
The agreement establishes that Samsung Electronics will act as a strategic memory partner for the Stargate initiative of the OpenAI project, which aims to build mass infrastructure masses of AI.
Floating data centers
Operai has projected that its memory demand could reach 900,000 DRAM wafers per month, and Samsung will provide high -performance and efficient memory solutions in energy to meet the requirements.
Samsung SDS will work with OpenAI to design, develop and operate AI data centers and provide business services.
It will also act as a reshift of the OpenAI Chatgpt company in Korea, supporting the adoption of local businesses.
Samsung Heavy Industries and Samsung C&T will collaborate with OpenAI in floating data centers, with a possible expansion in floating energy centers and control centers.
“Floating data centers … can address land scarcity, lower cooling costs and reduce carbon emissions,” the companies said in their letter of intent.
As The battery Notes, floating data centers are still rare, but interest is growing. The Stockton project in California has been operating since 2021, Japanese companies and the city of Yokohama are planning a solar design and batteries, and in June 2025, the American office of Shipping and Herbert Engineering proposed a concept of floating data center with nuclear energy.
The announcement occurs days after we revealed that Nvidia had poured $ 100 billion in OpenAI (to spend in the Nvidia chips themselves, naturally), and suggests that the creator of ChatgPT is looking to reduce her dependence on hyperscaling partners such as Microsoft.
With the rivals of AI as a goal and Google quickly expanding its own infrastructure, there is a growing pressure on OpenAi to establish itself as a large -scale operator in its own right.
