The great opposition alliance accused the government of trying to block its planned conference, insisting that the event will take place as scheduled tomorrow, despite the obstacles, said Express News.
The leaders of the Alliance, including Mahmood Khan Achakzai, Shahid Khaqan Abbasi, Omar Ayub and others, held a press conference after a crucial meeting to discuss the situation.
Abbasi revealed that the alliance had been trying to ensure a place for the conference during the past week. Initially, he said the first place was canceled, followed by a second, with the explanation that the National Cricket team needed to pass.
He pressed that for the Cricket, the whole country is often waiting. He added when the alliance moved to third place, the hotel administration intervened, threatening to close the market if the conference continued.
Despite these challenges, Abbasi declared that the conference took place, with journalists, lawyers and other political figures that attended. He stressed that the event focused solely on the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law, and that no inflammatory comments were made.
He criticized the government for being intimidated by a simple conference. He pointed out that the event was held inside, not in public, and yet the government was still afraid.
He also revealed that some people had threatened the hotel management, warning them that they closed the hotel if the conference continued. The alliance demanded written confirmation of these threats.
Abbasi described government actions as a sign of weakness, questioning how a government spending billions in ads could be afraid of a conference.
He regretted that a government formed by two main political parties was now afraid of democracy, despite his statements to support him. He concluded by stating that the conference would be held the next day, stating: “This is our right.”
Omar Ayub, the opposition leader, also spoke at the press conference, explaining that the conference had organized to discuss the preservation of the Pakistan Constitution and the future of the country. He stressed that all participants were democratic individuals, committed to strengthening Pakistan.
In addition, he revealed that the hotel administration had admitted to being under pressure, although they did not reveal her source. The opposition leaders insisted on a written confirmation of this pressure.
Ayub claimed to send a direct message to the government, warning that if such interference occurred again, it would approach the president of the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
He also addressed the criticisms aimed at him for discussing issues related to Baluchistan, which suggests that if the Baluchistan government had control, it should take measures to solve the problem publicly.
