Opposition parties are considering convening an all-party conference (APC) in February to deliberate on critical political, economic, constitutional and security issues, sources revealed on Monday.
Opposition leaders advocate for a united platform of democratic forces to address the pressing challenges facing the nation.
The alliance has defined that its agenda prioritizes constitutional supremacy and the reestablishment of the rule of law.
According to internal sources, the APC is expected to invite stakeholders from various sectors, including legal experts, academics, farmers and civil society representatives, ensuring a comprehensive dialogue on national issues.
The alliance also approached political leaders, including former Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar, to discuss the APC proposal.
In recent days, the opposition has intensified consultations with different parties and leaders to find viable solutions to the country’s current crisis.
In particular, sources indicate that the opposition could contact former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Fawad Chaudhry, urging him to join the alliance.
While Chaudhry has yet to decide whether he will rejoin the PTI, his possible participation in the opposition alliance could bolster efforts to counter the government.
The APC, if materialized, aims to address alleged government mismanagement that the opposition blames for the country’s current crises and propose viable solutions to put Pakistan on a corrective path.
Mustafa Khokhar joins PTI-led alliance
Former PPP senator Mustafa Nawaz Khokhar on Tuesday announced his decision to join the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led opposition alliance Tehreek-e-Tahaffuz-e-Aeen Pakistan (TTAP).
Addressing a press conference in Islamabad alongside PTI leader Omar Ayub and other leaders of the alliance, Khokhar expressed gratitude to the TTAP for the extensive discussions held on the nation’s challenges and current crises.
“Our discussions covered a range of topics including terrorism, economy and national integrity,” shared Khokhar, who is also former spokesperson for PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari.
He said it was imperative to work together in the difficult times facing the nation. “The weight of these crises is borne by the people: more than 15 million people fell below the poverty line last year,” he added.
Khokhar highlighted the urgent need to save the country from political instability and blamed the current PML-N-led government for exacerbating the crises. “The government has lent its shoulder to worsen these crises, an unprecedented situation in our history.”
Declaring his commitment to working with TTAP, Khokhar called for a national agenda focused on restoring the rule of law and the Constitution. “This broader interest will include civil society and all interested parties,” he added.
