The murder of Charlie Kirk hit near the home for Oregon soccer coach Dan Lanning, who recently discovered that Kirk was a fan of Lanning’s own ducks.
Lanning offered his condolences to Kirk’s wife, Erika, and his two children after his 34-14 victory over Northwestern on Saturday.
But in a prolonged response regarding the current culture of the United States, Lanning implored Americans to look at their own costumes, saying: “People in this world can learn a lot from [it]”

“You enter that wardrobe, you have boys from different races, boys of different origins, different religions, and you have a team that love each other. Tons of differences. Where do they come from, what they deal with and, ultimately, you have a team that love each other, and I think we are missing part of that in our country,” said Lanning.
Lanning has been Franco about armed violence before, and made his voice heard again on Saturday, condemning the “evil” that led to Kirk’s murder, as well as the deaths of children’s shots.
“I recently discovered that Charlie Kirk was a fan of Oregon, right? I didn’t know. It hurt for his wife, Erika and his children. That kind of evil should never exist in our country, and that is what it is: evil. I remember having to explain that to my family, right? I remember that I feel and explained what happened, and they are talking about people who speak in school. And it’s only sad. Lanning said.
“But it is just as sad: every day it seems that we deal with some kind of violence that is happening in our country, whether school children in Colorado or in children in Minnesota in the churches. I mean, life is important, and I think we have lost sight of.

Lanning also had a powerful message for those who did not agree with him on political and social issues.
“I only know this, I love you. I love you absolutely, right? And life matters. And there is no way that Charlie experiences, that his family should experiment, there is no way that this evil should exist in this world.”
Lanning then requested a reform of weapons for “sick people” and more protection for children in schools.
“And we have to continue identifying it and point it out and make sure it is absolutely evil. There is no reason in the world that our children, that we must be concerned with sending our children to school. It is our most valuable product in the world. They must be protected. And the reality is that there is not much common sense on both sides.

“Common sense says: ‘Oh, it’s mental health, right?’ Common sense says: ‘Oh, they are weapons’.
