- Former Assassin’s Creed leader clarifies his sudden departure from Ubisoft
- He claims he was asked to “step aside” but has “no hard feelings” toward the company.
- It was previously reported that he left after turning down a position at the newly formed Vantage Studios, a subsidiary of Ubisoft.
Marc-Alexis Côté, former director of the assassin’s creed franchise, has spoken of his sudden departure from Ubisoft after two decades at the company.
Côté clarified in a LinkedIn post that he was asked to “step aside,” despite previous reports claiming he left following the formation of subsidiary Vantage Studios, for which he apparently turned down a position.
“Many of you have expressed surprise that I decided to leave Assassin’s Creed after so many years, especially given the passion I still have for it,” Côté wrote on LinkedIn. “The truth is simple: I did not make that decision.”
“Ubisoft has decided to transfer leadership of the Assassin’s Creed franchise to someone closer to its new organizational structure,” he continued. “A different position was mentioned, but it did not have the same scope, mandate or continuity with the work that I had been given in recent years.”
Despite the sudden departure, Côté made it clear that he has “no hard feelings” toward Ubisoft. However, he stressed that: “I also owe it to my teams, past and present, to say this clearly: I did not step away. I remained in my position until Ubisoft asked me to step aside.”
It is currently unclear what the future of the assassin’s creed what the franchise will be like without Côté’s leadership.
