- Business leaders want to improve and not replace existing systems
- Martin emphasizes that software development is not doing magic
- There is no clear consensus on the impact of AI among industry leaders
In the recent Outsystems One event, there was a lot of advertising about the agent will transform the industries.
The company announced the general availability of workbench agents in the event, however, there was no clear consensus among industry leaders about how deep the impact of AI will resonate.
In an interview with Techradar Pro, the company’s CEO, Woodson Martin, emphasized the caution in the Hyberbole of AI, noting that “I have not met a single cio that says, my goal is to replace all my existing systems with something new built by a AI. Nobody says that.”
Ai uncertainty
Martin took a more temperate tone focusing on using technology to help companies reach the fastest future instead of completely replacing systems.
It is not only employees who face uncertainty in the AI era, but the question of whether software developing companies still have space in a world where complete applications can be created with a single message is also on the table.
Martin added: “Do I think we are a bit irrationally lush in the industry about the potential of AI to change everything and throw everything we have done to replace everything with something new? That exuberance is real.”
“Is it going to be a complete and total revolution and everything? No.”
People do not appreciate the work that developers make AI look good
Rick Hootee, IT director in Travel Essence, predicted during a panel that “90% of desktop work will be replaced by AI agents in the next three years”, while other leaders in the event will emphasize the importance of human -centered operations together with AI in commercial systems.
Instead, Martin explained what business leaders really want, which is to use this new technology to iterate on the upper part of existing data systems and assets to boost better productivity.
“And I think that the revolution is a bit overendon at this time, but I think that the real commercial impact will be promoted in the layers. And I think that this layer of AI and agent in the upper part of the assets that already exist in the company is the history of real value here.”
Martin also explained that the AI is only the tip of the iceberg, which describes how we see the do incredible things, but does not appreciate what is happening under the surface.
Including, the complete management of the life cycle of all applications within a company together with API and data storage, pointing out: “It’s like, Woo, look at the AI doing all magic here. But under the covers, there is a lot of hard work.”
While the message in Outsystems, one had a slight duality with the Agent AI changing everything and nothing at once, there was a clear message and that if a company is going to create an agent, Outsystems wants to be the company that helps do so with the Workbench Agent platform.
The Outsystems One event was full of successful case studies of AI agents that improved workflows, unlock data and maximize the efficiency that translated into better experiences for end users.
So, whether the revolution AI be oversized or not, I am happy to buy it.
