Pakistan aims to expand space cooperation with China, says Prime Minister Shehbaz

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif said Tuesday that Pakistan is anxious to improve cooperation with China in space technology fields, satellite communications and internet services.

The prime minister made the comments during a meeting with the delegation of the Chinese Space Technology Firm Galaxy Space, directed by President Xu Ming.

The prime minister described China as a “very reliable friend” and “strategic partner”, adding that Pakistan gives great importance to the growth of his sectors of space and telecommunications.

The Chinese delegation expressed a great interest in investing in the space industry of Pakistan and carrying out joint companies with the Space Agency of the Supparco country, as well as local telecommunications companies.

They also maintained productive discussions with officials from the Ministry of Information Technology and Telecommunications of Pakistan.

The federal ministers Ahad Khan Chema and Shaza Fatima Khawaja, together with the advisor of Prime Minister Dr. Tauqir Shah, attended the meeting.

Last year, Pakistan launched his first lunar satellite in collaboration with China. The ICUBE-Q Cubesat, developed by the Institute of Space Technology (IST) with the support of the University of Supparco and Shanghai Jiao Tong, entered the lunar orbit through the Chang’e-6 mission of China.

The 7 kg satellite wore cameras and sensors for images and communication in deep space.
