Pakistan and Romania sign memorandum of understanding to boost maritime cooperation


It aims to improve maritime connectivity to facilitate more efficient trade flows between South Asia and Europe.

Pakistan and Romania on Tuesday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen maritime connectivity between the two countries, Radio Pakistan reported.

The MoU was signed by Rear Admiral (retd) Chairman of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) and General Manager of Romania’s Constanta Port Administration Shahid Ahmed Mihai Teodorescu.

The signing ceremony, held virtually, was also attended by Romania’s ambassador to Pakistan, Dan Stoenescu, representatives of the ministries of Foreign Affairs and Transport of both countries, and members of the Pakistan-Romania Business Council.

The MoU reflects the shared objective of improving maritime connectivity between the port of Karachi and the port of Constanta on the Black Sea, facilitating more efficient trade flows between South Asia and Europe.

It is also expected to support Pakistan’s efforts to develop its maritime sector and blue economy, while reinforcing Romania’s role as a key logistics gateway to the European Union.

The improved connectivity between Karachi and Constanța is expected to create new opportunities for bilateral trade between Pakistan and Romania.

In his speech, Ambassador Stoenescu highlighted Romania’s objective to expand its exports to Pakistan, strengthen its economic presence in Asia and contribute to more balanced trade flows.

He added that the Romania-Pakistan partnership provides a forward-looking framework for sustainable economic cooperation.
