Pakistan and the EAU sign agreements to boost investment and digital cooperation

Pakistan and the United Arab Emirates signed on Wednesday a memorandum of understanding (MOU) about the mutual exemption of visa entry requirements, among other agreements during the twelfth session of the Joint Ministerial Commission of Pakistan-EU, held in Abu Dhabi.

The session was co -chaired by the Vice Prime Minister of Pakistan and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Senator Ishaq Dar, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the International Cooperation of the EAU, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Zayed al Nahyan.

The two countries signed different agreements aimed at improving cooperation in areas such as investment, artificial intelligence and the digital economy, they reported, he reported Pakistan radio.

The meeting was held in a spirit of mutual understanding and brotherhood, with both parties exchanging views on regional and international developments. They reaffirmed their commitment to peace and stability in the region.

Among the results of the session was the signing of a protocol that establishes procedure frameworks for monitoring actions, sector work groups and reciprocal visits.

This meeting, scheduled in October 2024, was the first session of the JMC in 13 years. The last session took place in Islamabad from November 6 to 7, 2013. Dar had arrived at the EAU on Monday to represent Pakistan.

Both delegations expressed satisfaction with the progress made and agreed to convene the 13th session of the JMC in Pakistan on mutually agreed.

Before the official session, a JMC preparatory working group met under the leadership of the special prime minister (SAPM) Tariq Bajwa and the Minister of State of the EAU Ahmed Ali Ali Al Sayegh.

The officials reviewed the complete scope of bilateral relations and agreed practical measures to expand cooperation in commerce, banking, investment, energy, aviation, railroads, food security, medical care, climate change, higher education, defense, labor and information technology.

Both countries emphasized the need to strengthen institutional mechanisms and promote interministerial coordination to ensure monitoring of joint initiatives.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif made an official visit to the EAU, where he met with the president of the EAA, Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed al Nahyan.

The two leaders discussed a wide range of bilateral, regional and global problems and reaffirmed their commitment to advance in collaboration.

The prime minister also expressed his gratitude to the EAU for his constructive diplomatic role in the ease of tensions between Pakistan and India, and recognized the broader efforts of the country to promote peace and stability in the region.
