ISLAMABAD:
Pakistan and Uzbekistan on Tuesday reaffirmed their commitment to deepen economic cooperation, with both sides agreeing on concrete measures to accelerate trade, investment, regional connectivity and sectoral partnerships during a high-level meeting in the federal capital.
Minister of Commerce Jam Kamal Khan held detailed discussions with Minister of Commerce of Uzbekistan Laziz Kudratov in which he reviewed the progress of bilateral initiatives and identified practical measures to convert political goodwill into measurable economic results across multiple sectors.
Welcoming the Uzbek delegation, Jam said engagement between Pakistan and Uzbekistan had intensified markedly in the last two years through frequent high-level contacts and sustained institutional follow-up, and emphasized that the focus must now shift towards effective implementation and execution.
He underlined the need to realize existing opportunities by addressing gaps in logistics, trade linkages and execution, while emphasizing the importance of keeping trade and investment coordination streamlined to ensure business continuity and predictability.
The Uzbek minister thanked Pakistan for the hospitality and arrangements made for the visit, noting that both countries were preparing for an upcoming high-level visit by Uzbekistan, which he said was expected to mark another milestone in the evolution of the bilateral partnership.
Highlighting positive trade trends, Kudratov said bilateral trade increased by about 10% last year, with Uzbekistan’s imports from Pakistan increasing by about 12%, while Uzbek exports to Pakistan recorded growth of about 8%.
