Pakistan has assured a consensus in the fifth committee of the UN General Assembly on a resolution to finance the newly established office of the special envoy to combat Islamophobia, authorities confirmed on Saturday.
The resolution of the reviewed budget estimates was adopted without vote during the closing session of the first part of the 79A UGA.
The first secretary of Pakistan in the UN mission, Jibran Khan Durrani, issued the National Declaration, expressing his gratitude to the Islamic Cooperation Organization (OIC), the G77 and China, and other international partners for their support.
He pointed out that the result reflected the success of collective diplomacy and inclusion. Pakistan played a main role as one of the main negotiators during the discussions of the committee.
The resolution ensures that the special envoy office on the fight against Islamophobia will be operational from next month.
The sending mandate will include monitoring, reports and advice on the increase in Islamophobic trends worldwide and support the broader efforts of the UN against religious intolerance.
Adoption marks a milestone for the multilateral commitment of Pakistan, after its successful impulse to designate March 15 as the International Day to combat Islamophobia.
