Islamabad:
While the world observes the International Day in support of the victims of torture on Thursday, Pakistan reiterated their solidarity with the victims of torture worldwide and reaffirmed their commitment to eradicate torture and defend human dignity.
“Islam defends the holiness and dignity of each human being. Any act of torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment is incompatible with the values of justice, mercy and compassion that are in the center of the Islamic teachings,” said the spokesman for the foreign office in a message in the day.
He said that guided by these values and their international obligations, Pakistan remained committed to eradicating the torture and strengthening of protections for all people.
“Pakistan continues to strengthen legal reforms, institutional safeguards and supervision mechanisms to guarantee responsibility and defend the rule of law. Measures are also being taken to provide victims with medical, legal and psycho-social support,” he said.
The spokesman said that Pakistan remained seriously concerned about the generalized and systematic use of torture as an instrument of oppression in situations of foreign occupation.
He stressed that the people of the occupied Palestinian territory and the Iiojk continued to be subjected to the worst forms of torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishments for the occupant powers to suppress their right to self -determination.
“Pakistan reiterates his call to the international community to condemn the crimes of these occupant powers and that responsible, in addition to helping to put an end to the difficult situation of the victims of their torture and oppression,” he added.
