Pakistan Attorney General, Mansoor Usman, Awan, said Monday that the Government had deferred its scheduled transfer to the International Court of Justice (ICI) on the recent actions of India after Pahalgam, citing changing priorities.

“Today we were supposed to proceed to the CIJ for the actions of India, but it has been canceled,” Awan informed the Superior Court during the Intra-Court Appeal Hearings that challenge the convictions of civilians by the military courts.

During the hearing, Attorney General Usman Awan appeared before the court and presented arguments about three points.

The Attorney General declared that Khawaja Haris, the lawyer of the Ministry of Defense, had already presented arguments about the events of May 9, and he would also provide some details on the matter before the court.

He said that the second part of his arguments would address the guarantees granted during the hearing of the main case, while the third point would belong to the right of appeal.

The Attorney General informed the Court to grant the right of appeal to those who face military trials was a political issue, and that he would present presentations on the matter after seeking instructions.

Judge Jamal Khan Commandkhail commented that the Parliament could make the political decisions that it considered appropriate, but the court approach would be limited to the present case.

The Attorney General said he had simply submitted his presentations and that it was up to the Court to decide whether to grant additional time. In addition, he pointed out that the relevant provisions in military law had existed since 1967.

Judge Muhammad Ali Mazhar asked how long the attorney general would require for his arguments. The attorney general replied that he would complete his arguments in 45 minutes.

The audience was postponed until May 5.
