Pakistan, China agrees to advance CPEC 2.0 with five new runners

Pakistan and China reaffirmed their commitment to advance bilateral cooperation under the Chinese-Pakistan economic corridor updated (CPEC 2.0), which includes five new runners.

The understanding occurred during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Prime Minister Li Qiang. Both parties expressed satisfaction with the progress of their relationships and promised to work closely in the next phase of CPEC.

Prime Minister Shehbaz is currently in China on an official six -day visit. He landed in Tianjin on August 30, where he attended the summit of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO).

During today’s meeting, the two leaders also attended the ceremony to exchange comprehension memorandes (MOU) and agreements signed and announced between the two countries regarding cooperation in the development of CPEC 2.0, science and technology, IT, media, agriculture, etc.

The conversations at the delegation level were followed by a sumptuous lunch, organized by the Chinese prime minister in honor of the prime minister and his delegation.

During his “warm and friendly” meeting, the prime minister expressed his deepest gratitude for Chinese leadership and nation for his unwavering support for territorial integrity, sovereignty and socioeconomic development of Pakistan.

On the basis of the important consensus between President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Shehbaz at his meeting on September 2, both leaders reaffirmed their shared resolution to further strengthen the strategic cooperative association dressed in iron between Pakistan and China.

The prime minister also congratulated Chinese leadership for the successful host of the SCO of Heads of the State Summit in Tianjin and extended his congratulations to China on the 80th anniversary of the success of the Chinese people in the resistance war and the world’s anti -fascist war.

When paying a rich tribute to the impressive transformation of China under the visionary leadership of President Xi Jinping, the prime minister declared that Pakistan wanted to emulate China’s successes and build a community of Pakistan-China stronger and more close with a shared future.

He added that the tireless reform efforts of his government were producing promising results, which made possible through the strong support of China.

Prime Minister Shehbaz also shared Pakistan’s intention to float panda bonds in the Chinese capital market soon.

In the Economic Front, the Prime Minister highlighted the significant contribution of the CPEC: an emblematic project of the Belt and Road initiative of President XI (BRI), in the socio-economic development of Pakistan in the last decade, and emphasized the need for early implementation of the realignization of ML-I, KKH and operationalization of the Gwadar port.
