Previously, Israel launched an air attack in Doha aimed at Hamas leaders, killing five members, including the son of the main negotiator Khalil Al-Hayya. Qatar said a security officer was also killed.
Israel said the attack was in response to a shooting claimed by Hamas in Jerusalem that left six dead. Hamas confirmed that the main negotiators survived.
The White House criticized Israel’s decision to attack Qatar, a key ally of the United States, although it called Hamas a “dignified objective.” President Trump assured Qatar that such action would not be used.
Qatar condemned the attack as a violation of sovereignty and promised to continue mediating the conversations of Gaza Cesefire.
Great Britain, France, Germany and the EU condemned the attack, calling them unacceptable and dangerous. Pakistan’s prime minister, Shehbaz Sharif also denounced the attack as illegal and a threat to regional peace.
