- Two or three changes likely to happen in team against Namibia: sources.
- They add that management is considering giving the bench strength a chance.
- Pakistan will face Namibia in a key group stage match on Wednesday.
LAHORE: Following Pakistan team’s defeat against India in T20 World Cup 2026, sources said Geographic news on Monday that the team management is disappointed with the performance of the veteran players.
The management, they added, is considering benching Babar Azam and Shaheen Shah Afridi in the match against Namibia.
The match against Namibia is likely to see two to three changes in the team, sources said, adding that the management is considering making a change on the bench to prove its worth.
Once preparations for the next match have begun, the Green Shirts spokesperson stated that the players will rest today.
Pakistan’s crucial match against Namibia will take place on Wednesday at the Sinhalese Sports Club cricket ground, and a win is essential for the 2009 champions to secure their place in the Super Eight stage.
However, even a rain-affected result would be enough for them to advance.
The trade speculation comes after a disappointing performance with bat and ball against arch-rivals India on Sunday.
Having opted to play first on a spin-friendly surface, Pakistan’s strategy unraveled when Ishan Kishan’s half-century propelled India to 175 for five.
The spin attack, on which the team had pinned its hopes, endured a difficult afternoon. Abrar Ahmed proved expensive, conceding 38 runs in his three overs, while Shadab Khan conceded 17 in a solitary over; none managed to take a wicket.
Captain Salman Ali Agha later described the performance as a “day off”. Shaheen Afridi was the pick of the bowlers, returning figures of one for 31 in his two overs.
In response, Pakistan’s batting line-up crumbled under the pressure of the chase, folding for just 114 in 18 overs after a disastrous start to their innings.
