He said the claims made by the Taliban’s “so-called Ministry of Defense” were part of a pattern of propaganda that had “always fallen on its face once the facts were verified,” adding that “there has been no credible and verifiable evidence of such frivolous and repeated claims made by the Taliban media.”
“Damage and losses suffered by the Afghan Taliban and its extent Fitna Al Khawarij They are updated regularly by MOIB,” the statement said, adding that videos and related pictorial evidence, where applicable, were also shared with the media instead of resorting to false claims and propaganda.
Fitna Al Khawarij is a term the state uses to refer to terrorists belonging to the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).
The ministry added that great care was being taken to provide credible and timely information on ongoing targeted operations against terrorists and their supporting infrastructure within areas under the Afghan Taliban regime.
Information Minister Attaullah Tarar also commented on the matter, saying: “These false claims have no basis or foundation.”
Tarar added that the Ministry of Information regularly updated the damage and losses suffered by the Afghan Taliban and the TTP with “irrefutable photographic and video evidence.”

The prime minister’s spokesman for foreign media, Mosharraf Zaidi, said the Afghan Taliban were “spending more time weaving fantasies than getting rid of the TTP, the BLA and other terrorist organizations that enjoy the hospitality of the Afghan Taliban regime.”

He added that propaganda would not make Pakistan end its counter-terrorism operations. “Only the end of terrorism from Afghan soil to Pakistan will achieve this.”
This was not the first such claim by the Afghan Taliban. A day earlier, they had claimed to have successfully attacked “important facilities” in Islamabad with a drone strike, a claim that the Ministry of Information’s fact-checking account dismissed as fake news and propaganda.

Pakistan’s military intercepted a few rudimentary drones allegedly launched by the Afghan Taliban on March 13 in what officials described as a failed attempt to harass civilians.
The developments come as Pakistan continues its “Operation Ghazab Lil Haq,” launched after fresh clashes along the Pakistan-Afghanistan border, when Afghan Taliban forces fired on multiple locations, prompting swift military retaliation.
Islamabad said its February airstrikes that sparked the escalation targeted terrorists. Islamabad accused Afghanistan of failing to act against terrorist groups carrying out attacks in Pakistan, which the Taliban government rejected. Border fighting has affected several Afghan provinces.
The violence of recent days is the worst since fighting in October killed more than 70 people on both sides, and land borders between the neighbors have since been virtually closed.
