Karachi: Pakistan defeated Tayikistan 2-1 in his group A draw of Billie Jean King Cup Asia/Oceania Zone III on Tuesday in Colombo, Sri Lanka.

Despite an early setback in the opening match of the singles, Pakistan recovered strongly to claim the tie.

Amna Ali Qayum, touching the first individual rubber, was forced to withdraw after an injury to the decisive set against Anisa Yakhyyaeva of Tayikistan after leading at the beginning of the game. The final score was 6-1, 5-7, 0-1 (retired), giving Tayikistan a 1-0 advantage.

Amna led the second set 5-3 after winning the first 6-1 set when he was injured, he decided to complete the game, but retired in the third set.

However, Ushna Suhail leveled the draw with a direct victory in the right sets over Saiyora Rajabalieva, 6-3, 6-1, in the second singles game.

In the decisive double rubber, Ushna Suhail partnered with Meheq Khokhar to deliver a dominant victory 6-0, 6-1 over the Tayika pair of Yakhyyaeva and Sumaya Tukhtaeva, sealing the 2-1 draw in favor of Pakistan.

The result increases Pakistan’s hopes to advance in the tournament with his next scheduled match against Turkmenistan on Thursday.

A team of four members represents Pakistan in the Billie Jean King/Oceania Cup that takes place in Sri Lanka.

According to the Pakistan Tennis Federation, for the selection of the Pakistan team Billie Jean King Cup, tests were conducted from May 5 to 7 the PTF tennis complex.

Eight players were invited to participate according to PTF classifications. Ushna was exempt from the trials due to his recent outstanding actions, said a press release.

Selected team members include Sara Mansoor, former number 1 of Pakistan, as a non -player, Amna, Meheq and Sheeza Saxid captain.
